Description of scientific activity

After graduation in 1986, Assoc. Prof. M. Oliverius, MD, PhD, FEBS started his surgical practice in Mladá Boleslav. Shortly after his first attestation he continued his professional activity at the surgical clinic of the Thomayer University Hospital and started teaching at the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University. After successful completion of the second attestation in surgery, he worked for two years at the surgical department of the Na Homolce Hospital, from where he moved to the Transplantation Clinic of IKEM in 2004. There he worked as the deputy head of the clinic and at the same time continued teaching at the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University. Since 2017, he has been working as Deputy Head for Science and Research at the Surgical Clinic of the Third Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University in Prague and part-time at the Centre for Cardiovascular and Transplant Surgery in Brno.


His professional activity is connected with onco-surgery and transplantation medicine. In 2011, he defended his PhD thesis on a large-scale experiment of small intestine transplantation in pig and contributed substantially to the preparation and launch of the clinical programme of intestine transplantation.


He habilitated in 2012 at the 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. He was a member of the scientific board of IKEM until 2021. He is a member of the departmental board of postgraduate studies in biomedicine of Charles University and an external supervisor at the departmental board of biomedicine of Masaryk University in Brno.


He has a lifelong interest in onco-surgery, especially in the field of hepatopancreatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation.


For two terms he was elected to the committee of ELITA (European Liver and Intestine Association) at ESOT. He is a major contributor to postgraduate training within the European Union in the Transplantation and Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Section of the UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists).


He is the author and co-author of one of his own and two other monographs. He has published a total of 41 publications with IF, 9 of which as first or corresponding author. His H-index is 12.
