The department is engaged in diagnostics and treatment of the full neurological spectrum of diseases. In its specialized centres we focus on cerebrovascular diseases, multiple sclerosis, dementia and spasticity. The department provides pregradual as well as postgradual education of students and young medical doctors and engages in research projects including those on international level.
The Centre for Demyelinating Diseases belongs to one of the actually biggest ones of this sort in the Czech Republic. In 2010 our department has won a statute of a regional centre of threatment of stoke; we are providing treatment with systemic thrombolysis and mechanical recanalization. The most advanced treatment is offered also to patients in the Center of Alzheimer´s dementia. In 2012 a new Centre for the Treatment of Spasticity has been established.
