Connection of medical knowledge and principles of evidence based medicine with economic analysis and practical knowledge of daily functioning of Czech and other medical systems are in the center of CZEM interests and competencies. This knowledge base results into competencies in following areas:

• Reimbursement mechanisms and contracts among payers and providers, including risk-sharing contracts

• Health services research – analyses of provider behavior, assessment of quality and effectiveness of provided services

• Disease management programs, clinical protocols and other tools of standardization and integration of health services which aim to reduce the impact of chronic diseases, including motivation systems for patients

• Funding of health systems, including impact of population ageing, risk-adjustment mechanisms and long-term care
