Description of scientific activity

Ladislav Krofta graduated as a medical doctor from First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. Afterwards, he became a specialist in Obstetric and Gynecology with additional specialization in Urogynecology, Perinatology and Fetomaternal medicine. Since 1999 he works as a medical doctor – senior consultant along with the position of deputy director at Institute for the Care of Mother and Child, Prague. He is a consultant, supervisor and teacher at Third Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, The Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education. During his doctoral studies, he specialized in Diagnosis of congenital malformations in the 1st trimester of gestation and defended thesis in 2001. Since 2012 he leads the Center of fetal medicine. His group focuses on the diagnostic and treatment of malformations and fetal disorders in utero. The center centralizes cases from the whole Czech and Slovak republic. In 2018, he was appointed a forensic expert in the field of gynecology and obstetrics. In 2011, he defended his habilitation thesis on "Changes in the morphology of the pelvic floor in connection with vaginal delivery". Title of the inaugural lecture: "Influence of pregnancy and method of delivery on the function and morphology of the pelvic floor". In 2020, he was appointed professor of gynecology and obstetrics. He established international collaborations. The main ongoing collaborations are 1/ KU Leuven, Belgium, Centre for Biomedical Research – ongoing joint PhD agreements, 2/University of Barcelona, Center for Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, Spain – collaboration on multicenter randomized control trial – PE-37 Birth induction in the term in women with abnormal angiogenic factors, 3/ Imperial College London, Queen Charlotte´s and Cheldea Hospital, randomized trial TRUFFLE 2 – Evaluation of perinatal and neurological outcome in 2 year follow up in fetuses with late intrauterine growth restriction. He is author of 166 papers, most of them published in international peer-reviewed journals with impact factor, 1201 citations, 933 citations without autocitation, h index 20. He is a member and on board of several associations in field of feto-maternal medicine and urogynecology. He is invited speaker, chair and presenter at national (i.e. ČGPS, SNGP, UGS) and international conferences (i.e. IUGA, EUGA, AUGS, ICS, FMF, ISUOG).
