Rector ́s Sports Day
Dear sport fans,
As in previous years, the end of this year’s summer semester sees the annual Rector’s Sports Day (RSD), carried out under the auspices of University Rector Professor MUDr. Tomáš Zima, DrSc., MBA, an occasion intended to bring together students of the University, both on and off the sports field. All classes at CU on the day of the RSD are cancelled, allowing students to devote the entire day to taking part in competitions organised the individual faculties and institutes of physical education at the University’s faculties. The RSD has, in precious years, attracted considerable interest from students, with around 1,500 actively participating in events, and I hope that this tradition of mass participation will continue this year, too.
Apart from sports competitions (football, volleyball, basketball, softball, floorball, tennis, table tennis, badminton), aerobics and aqua fitness attract considerable interest from female students in particular; fans of outdoors sports and activities can look forward to cycling, inline skating, Nordic walking, orienteering and canoeing on the Sázava River. Fans of fitness and golf, including beginners, can look forward to their own events, too. This year will see the inaugural tournament in chess, a game fundamentally linked to the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. The programme of events will also include a slackline festival organised by the Student Union and the Faculty of Science.
The traditional programme of events for handicapped students will take place at the Regata boathouse in Prague-Podolí, including canoeing, cycling, motorboat rides and catamaran yachting, basketball and a session by the campfire).
The majority of competitions will take place at the CU Sports Centre in Prague-Hostivař, while athletics events will take place at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport in Prague-Vokovice, volleyball in the sports complex of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Albertov, while the slackline festival will take place in front of the Faculty of Science.
